Four

My favorite number is four.  In honor of this number, I will tell four random stories about myself.

  • I used to have very thin, board straight hair.  I wished and hoped and used all my birthday candles for curly hair.  Until one day, when I was 13, I took a shower and washed my hair like normal and when it dried it curled up into big ringlets.  I've had curly hair ever since.
  • When I was in high school, during the fall I would pull over whenever I saw a good clustering of pine cones on the ground and grab as many as I could (the fatter the better).  I stowed all of the pine cones in the back seat of my car and would occasionally send one off with someone I gave a ride.  One day I got into a wreck that totaled my car.  When my dad went to the junk yard to get all of my belongings out of it, all he found was a stash of pine cones!
  • I went to Uganda with a group the summer after my senior year of high school.  It was a really incredible experience to share with my dad, and it was not without its laughs.  One Sunday I went with my dad to visit a village family.  While we were sitting at their home eating lunch, one of the neighbor men came over to visit and offered my dad ten cows as a dowry for his son to marry me.  Of course, my dad declined, but not before checking to see how good that is compared to the average market value for a wife.  Apparently, that's pretty steep and my dad would have been rich. ;)
  • I wanted a pet pig when I was a kid so badly (still do!), that when I was visiting a farm once with my family I literally almost walked out of the place with a baby potbelly in my arms.  I was so close!  One day, my dream will come true...
